We were contacted by Rothsport
Racing in Tualitan , Oregon regarding the possibility of
resurrecting this wreck ...the damage was in fact rather severe.
The collision involved striking the
telephone pole squarely in the middle of the drive's side door.
Needless to say the door and inner door panel were trashed but the
real damage was to the box section of the tub which shattered
resulting in a broken rocker panel and under body trays.
We deliberated for all of about
twenty minutes before reaching the conclusion that this was a
challenge right up our alley. Entering into a contractual arrangement
with the very talented group at Rothsport we agreed to perform the
composite repairs.
All the necessary disassembly to
allow us access to complete the repairs was done in Oregon and the car
then shipped up to us here in Seattle. We rebuilt the
damaged tub replacing the honeycomb core and laminating new carbon
fiber using "Proset Systems" resin.

Innovation and learning to think
outside the box in adapting to unique situations is an important part
of this business. We ended up building a custom curing oven around the
tub in order to facilitate post curing of our repairs. Repairing the
remaining parts was perhaps less challenging but no less time
consuming and required mapping the good side of the car then
mirroring those dimensions onto the damaged side of the car in order
to maintain proper proportions.
As a final "upgrade" you might
say we clear-coated the visible carbon fiber portions of the body work
with PPG "Concept" high gloss. This will go a long way in providing UV
protection to the laminating resin which has become a real issue with
these cars.
